Steve Brown
A multi sport athlete growing up in Suburban Philadelphia, Steve made his way to Cabrini
College in Radnor Pennsylvania on a soccer scholarship where he earned many honors including Most Valuable Player recognition.
Post college, Brown played semi-professionally for a number of years in the Majors Division of the United
Soccer League for the club Danubia.
Finding it difficult to stick to rigid practice and game schedules while starting a family, Steve traded
in his soccer shoes and turned his passions to the flexibility of multisport racing in 1987 and has never looked back.
Since 1987, Steve has racked up 15 marathons, 9 Iron distance triathlons (and counting) and numerous triathlons
and multisport events of all distances. Including many top age group finishes.
In addition to his busy racing and training schedule, Steve is also very active using his involvement
in multisport racing as a way of raising funds and awareness for significant causes.
Steve is the editor for the endurance sports magazine - www.transitiontimes.com and his material has often appeared in various national and regional print and web based publications. Steve
has also been a featured guest on several radio, TV and internet broadcast programs. Check the "In The Media" link on
this site for details and clips.
In his "spare time", Steve works closely with top race management companies such as The Philadelphia
Insurance Triathlon, Piranha Sports and Columbia Triathlon Association in promoting their events while also serving on the
USA Triathlon Mid Atlantic region's Board of Directors.
In February of 2006, life threw Steve a curve ball when he was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
Wasting no time, he underwent four rounds of chemotherapy. He maintained his baseline fitness level, often running
home from his treatments and quickly reached complete remission. By July of that same year, he was back to racing
triathlons. By September of that year, just 7 months after his diagnosis, "RemissionMan" crossed
the finish line of his 8th career iron distance triathlon. (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) His diagnosis drew
him to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's TEAM in TRAINING program where he signed on as an
Assistant Triathlon Coach.
Brown has chronicled his journey through remission and across the finish line and in May, 2007 published the
book "My New Race" to tell the story.
Brown has also written a collection of multisport short stories, articles, and interviews, entitled
"The Inner Triathlete ... Forever ablaze". This book is dedicated to Jon "Blazeman" Blais and a portion of the proceeds
benefit The Blazeman Foundation's fight against Lou Gehrig's disease.
Steve and his wife MG live in Delaware County Pennsylvania with their two daughters, where he also serves
on the Board of Directors of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
In the words of Pat Croce, "Steve Brown is committed to facilitating positive change in the
world - one person at a time".
